What to expect when getting porcelain veneers
As each patient and their smile goals are different, the process for getting porcelain veneers may look a little different from one person to another. But, generally, the procedure take place in four stages:
Assessment
During this phase, your dentist will assess your suitability for veneers. This involves checking the health of your teeth and gums. They will take the time to get to know you, understand your concerns with your current smile and establish your new smile goals.
Teeth Preparation & Smile Design
Now the preparations for your new smile can start! This involves choosing the perfect shade of white for your veneers and getting your teeth ready to receive them. Once your teeth have been prepped for your veneers, impressions of your teeth are taken for the manufacture of your custom-made veneers. You’ll even get to see what your new smile will look like post-treatment!
Fitting and Bonding
Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll come in to have them fit. This involves your dentist making sure they fit perfectly and making any necessary adjustments before securing them in place. When the bonding of your new veneers is complete, you’re good to go, complete with your brand new smile.
Follow Up
We genuinely care about your results so we like to see you again about 2 weeks after we fit your veneers. This is to make sure your gums are happy and allows us to make any final fitment adjustments.
Aftercare
Looking after your new veneers is much the same as looking after your natural teeth. Whilst porcelain veneers are durable and long-lasting, taking good care of them can extend their life. Twice daily gentle brushing and keeping up with a flossing regime is important.
Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, but excessive exposure to heavily-coloured drinks and foods will have an affect on them. Like your natural teeth, it pays to be cautious when chewing hard, brittle foods.
